Position Overview:
As a Surgical Technician, you will play a critical role in the operating room (OR) by ensuring it is prepared and sterile for surgical procedures. Your primary duties include sterilizing instruments, maintaining a sterile environment, and assisting the surgical team during surgeries by passing instruments and providing necessary items. This position requires exceptional attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to remain composed in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment. Compensation is commensurate upon education, experience, certification, and internal equity. Hiring compensation range starts from $23.00/hour.

- Compensation is commensurate upon education & experience - range is $23.00/hour or more (depending on education & experience). Benefits begin the first of the month following 60 days of employment from the new hire orientation date. This position is a non-exempt position.

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the operating room (OR) is properly set up, sterilized, and ready for surgical procedures.
- Pass instruments and necessary items to surgeons and nurses during surgical procedures.
- Maintain a sterile environment throughout the surgical process to prevent contamination.
- Assist with the positioning and draping of patients in preparation for surgery.
- Work alongside surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide seamless surgical support.
- Participate in the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment.
- Respond quickly and efficiently to the needs of the surgical team in high-pressure situations.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Education:
- Associate’s Degree preferred.
- Formal training and certification as a Surgical Technologist required.
Experience:
- 2 years of previous experience as a Surgical Technician or in a related medical role preferred.
Required Registration/License/Certification:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required at time of hire.
- Certified Surgical Technician (CST) required at time of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile techniques.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in fast-paced surgical settings.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
Physical Demands:
- Lifts, positions, pushes, pulls, and/or transfers up to and greater than 50 pounds.
- Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods.
- Bending, squatting, twisting, and turning.
- Ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less.
Working Conditions:
- Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases.
- Frequently exposed to electrical, mechanical, and power equipment, odorous chemicals, and specimens.
- Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays), and emergency situations.
- Continuous standing and walking for long periods (greater than 8 hours per shift).
- May be exposed to ionizing/non-ionizing radiation, including x-ray and microwave exposure.
- Requires flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
