Position Summary
-
The nurse practitioner (NP) provides general medical care and treatment to patients under the direction of a member of the current active or consultative medical staff. Acts as a role model for unit staff.
The NP provides direct and indirect patient care services that meet the psychosocial, physical, and restorative needs of each patient. The NP’s decisions and actions with patients and families are determined in an ethical manner practicing compassion and respect for the inherent dignity, worth and unique attributes of each person. Effectively communicates with patients/families, visitors, colleagues, physicians, leadership, and volunteers. All areas of practice and care delivery are provided to achieve and maintain top decile results and outcomes for patient experience, quality, and patient safety. The NP follows and adheres to ARHS policies and procedures, regulatory requirements and standards of behavior. The NP practices within the scope of their license and in accordance with policies and procedures relative to provider standards.

The NP demonstrates professional conduct, effective communication, and effective delegation of tasks. Position Qualifications

Minimum Education
-
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Master’s Degree in a Nurse Practitioner Program

Experience
-
- 2 years of experience in Med/Surg preferred
- Previous health care experience in an acute or clinic setting is preferred
- One-year prior experience in a similar role with a similar scope is preferred

Required Registration/License/Certification
-
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse and a Nurse Practitioner in the state of North Carolina
- Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire
- All required certifications must be obtained within 1 year of hire date, except BLS
- BLS, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications must be obtained from the American Heart Association.
- Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certifications must be obtained from the ENA.
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) must be obtained through the American Critical Care Nurses Association and completed within 18 months of hire if required.
- Cardiac Surgery Critical Care (CSC) must be obtained through the American Critical Care Nurses Association. Eligible to test after two years of caring for Cardiothoracic patients
