Position Overview:
The OB Technician works under the direction of licensed nurses, assisting with the delivery of care and performing assigned duties to ensure a safe and competent patient experience. The OB Tech demonstrates compassion, professionalism, and effective communication in their role. They help maintain patient safety, quality of care, and contribute to the positive outcomes of each patient. This position requires the ability to collaborate with healthcare professionals while adhering to policies and regulatory standards.

Compensation is commensurate upon education, experience, certification, and internal equity. Hiring compensation range starts from $ 16.00/hour.

  • Compensation is commensurate upon education & experience - range is 16.00/hour or more (depending on education & experience). Benefits begin the first of the month following 60 days of employment from the new hire orientation date. This position is a non-exempt position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist licensed nurses in delivering safe and effective care to patients in the OB department.
  • Provide patient care under the direction of licensed nurses while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Support the clinical team with procedures and patient interactions, maintaining effective communication with all team members.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in every aspect of patient care and foster a compassionate and respectful environment.
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to changes in patient condition and emergencies in the work environment.

Position Requirements:

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a course leading to listing with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Health Care Personnel Registry (NC HCPR) as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) I.

Experience:

  • Previous experience as a CNA is preferred.

Required Registration/License/Certification:

  • Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) I in the state of North Carolina.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and works within the scope of the CNA.
  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public, patients, family, staff, and physicians and acts within the chain of command, utilizing positive verbal and non-verbal skills.
  • Competent in delivering safe and effective patient care within limits of certification and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the continuum of care provided.
  • Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service to patients, family, staff, and physicians.
  • Computer skills including data entry and the EMR.

Physical Demands:

  • Lifts, positions, pushes, pulls, and/or transfers up to and greater than 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and mobility.
  • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable sitting/standing/walking.
  • Bending, squatting, twisting, and turning.
  • Near acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less.

Working Conditions:

  • Regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases.
  • Frequently exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment, odorous chemicals, and specimens and unpleasant elements (accident, injury, slippery surfaces, uneven surfaces), etc.
  • Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) and emergencies.
  • Continuous standing and walking long periods = to or greater than > 8 hours per shift.
  • Speaking, reading, and writing, expanded > 8 hours per day.
