- POSITION SUMMARY
- Serves as a liaison between patients or families and medical or hospital staff to facilitate conflict resolution. Coordinates complaint management. Validates and documents that Patient Rights and Responsibilities are discussed with each patient. Provides oral interpretation and written translation services between Spanish-speaking patients/families and the hospital staff.
- EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Fluent speaking, reading and writing Spanish.
- Pass the "Language Line Assessment for UNC" prior to hire
- Knowledge of the Latin American population. Communications skills gained through experience in a high customer contact position.
- Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, graphics and database software.
- Within 6 months from date of hire required to complete 40hr medical interpreter training
- Preferred:
- Associate Degree in a social science/healthcare-related field or former Medical Interpreter experience
- Bachelors Degree in a social sciences or health-care field, and certification as an Interpreter, with knowledge of hospital organization/processes and previous related experience in a healthcare setting
- Fluent in speaking, reading and writing in Haitian-Creole
