Summary:
This position leads technician training efforts, identifies and executes process improvement opportunities, and prioritizes workflow. Each month technician will be expected to attend 3 of the sterilization cleans, in addition to providing support to the pharmacist by reviewing, compounding sterile product preparations and dispensing medications. All work is carried out under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $5000 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment. Responsibilities:
- Performs expert training of new employees, educating them in job-specific functions. Develops training materials, and completes training documentation.
- Operates independently on process improvement projects. Actively implements identified solutions.
- Assists the pharmacist in reprioritizing daily workflow to maintain operations. Assists with schedule adjustments.
- Under the supervision of a pharmacist, fulfills medication and supply orders for distribution to hospitals and clinics within and/or affiliated with the health-system.
- Compounds and/or repackages medications (sterile products, oral, topical, etc.) under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
- Documents pharmaceutical distribution activities for medications and equipment, quality control requirements, etc. using automated and paper systems. Ensures accuracy of data.
- Responds to and triages requests from customers for assistance with pharmacy distribution or compounding services.
- Supports hospital automated dispensing technology to supply correct refill medications thru targeted pharmacy distribution programs.
- Receives, restocks, and rotates inventory, and leads and completes expiration date management.
- Leads in regulatory compliance checks for medication storage areas, including inspections and/or controlled substance inventories, USP797 and other regulatory documentation as required.
- Coordinates shipments to hospitals and clinics with multiple couriers and shipment pathways
- Ensures compliance of all shipments with temperature requirements (i.e.; cold chain, room temperature)
Other Information
Education Requirements:
- None required as long as other position qualifications are met. Completion of an academic pharmacy technician training program preferred.
- Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
- CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
- Two years of pharmacy technician experience required.
- Requires standing for extended periods (most of an 8-hour shift)
- Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift
- Must be able to reach over head to access shelved product
