Summary: Provides translation-interpreter services for Spanish-speaking patients and their families, as needed throughout the UNC Healthcare System.
Responsibilities
- Maintains records related to translation requests and documents the nature of requests in patients? medical records
- Provides accurate face to face medical interpretation between Spanish speaking patients and staff in a variety of settings within UNC HealthCare.
- Serves as an advocate for Spanish speaking patients and their families assisting in the coordination of health needs. Assists care providers in understanding the Hispanic culture.
- Translates and maintains UNC HealthCare printed material into Spanish. Actively searches for existing Spanish language materials pertaining to health care and hospitalization.
Other information:
Education Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- No licensure or certification required.
- One (1) year of experience in a health care or human services setting.
- Demonstrates a fluency in the Spanish and English languages. Possess extensive knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
