Summary
- The NAII is responsible for administering direct patient care and performing other duties deemed necessary to insure optimal patient care.
- Patients and families are served in providing direct patient care services. Performs duties and conducts interpersonal relationships in a manner to project a positive image of the department and hospital. Insures that contacts with other health care members is friendly helpful and courteous.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduate or equivalent. Completion of North Carolina (NC) Board of Nursing approved Nursing Assistant course.
- None required.
- Certified by the N. C. State Board of Nursing as a NAII. Certified by the N. C. Department of Facility Services as a NAI. BCLS Certification.
- Good interpersonal, communication and observation skills are essential. Understanding of patient care needs according to developmental stages for various age groups.
- Exposure to blood borne pathogens, airborne pathogens, and other infectious diseases requiring the use of protective equipment; exposure to other hazards, such as radiation, toxic waste, chemical hazards based on the departments. Possible exposure to conditions, such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
- Standing, sitting, walking and working throughout the shift. Lifting, pulling, turning and pushing patients daily. Ability to use appropriate Safe-Patient Handling equipment. Visual acuity, auditory and verbal skills necessary. Stressful work periods and rotating shifts.
