Summary :

Receives, orders, inventories, stores and issues items (food, drugs, equipment, chemicals, products, etc.) throughout the facility and off-site locations. This position performs these duties in both patient and non-patient related care areas and is assigned to a variety of departments throughout UNC Hospitals.

This position is assigned to the Surgical Services departments at both Smithfield and Clayton hospitals, ensuring critical medical and surgical supplies are readily available to clinicians across various specialties. Utilizing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software and barcode scanning technology, this role performs diverse materials management tasks to support Surgical Services. Responsibilities include fulfilling requests for medical / surgical supplies and equipment, often requiring immediate response to urgent and emergent needs from Surgical Services staff. All activities adhere to established policies and procedures to ensure safe storage, proper handling, accurate record-keeping, and error-free transactions. The position involves both independent work and collaboration within a team, under the guidance of inventory coordinators and the department director.

Responsibilities :

• Accurately deliver and stage all incoming medical / surgical supplies into the correct Surgical Services Storage locations while maintaining sterile storage conditions.
• Communicate and collaborate with Surgical Services clinicians over various technologies, while responding to challenging questions, on-demand requests, and an ever-changing Surgical Services procedure schedule.
• Ability to navigate complex procurement and / or tracking software.
• Generate internal requisitions for central inventory identifying stock shortages eligible for replenishment.
• Ensure all customer supply storage locations are free of expired or obsolete items.
• Communicate with Inventory Coordinators regarding critical medical / surgical supply concerns.
• Be available to work in either the Smithfield or Clayton location
• Technical aptitude is also an important part of this job as employees must learn processes in our computer system INFOR as well as required daily use of Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
