The Department of Surgery at the University of North Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time academic colorectal surgeon to join the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery and expand the research and clinical efforts. The responsibilities of this position will be shared between research and clinical commitments. The candidate will work towards developing or will already have an independently funded research program. Preference will be given to candidates with interest in clinical, outcomes, health services, ethics, education, or global surgery research.

Faculty members within the Department of Surgery have access to resources through the UNC Surgical Health Services Research Center (USHER) as well as several institutional resources including the Sheps Center for Health Services Research and North Carolina Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute (NC TraCS). Additionally, the University of North Carolina has many incredible schools across campus to create partnerships for multidisciplinary research, including the Gillings School of Global Public Health.

The Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery is among 9 Divisions in the Department of Surgery. The Division currently includes faculty members that provide a broad array of clinical services for patients with colorectal, foregut, bariatric, and hernia disease. In addition, the Division maintains a minimally invasive Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery fellowship. Patients are referred to our surgeons from across the Eastern United States for management of a variety of benign and malignant gastrointestinal disorders via open, laparoscopic, and robotic approaches.

Regarding the clinical mission, candidates should have an interest in developing a broad practice in colorectal surgery including inflammatory bowel disease, cancer, diverticulitis, anorectal disease, and pelvic floor disorders.

This position is being recruited as an open-rank, open-track appointment at an FTE between 0.5 FTE and 1.0 FTE. The appointment may also be offered as a fixed-term track or tenure / tenure track appointment. Academic appointments will commensurate with the candidate's experience. The faculty member will be expected to perform research, along with the academic responsibilities of an educational institution. The candidate must be team-oriented and be able to interact well with colleagues inside and outside the Division.
