Reporting to the Head of Resource Acquisitions & Management, the E-Resources Acquisitions Librarian leads the University Library's licensing activities and plays an integral role in acquiring and managing e-resources for the libraries. The E-Resources Acquisitions Librarian will join the Resource & Acquisitions Management (RAM) unit within the Technical Services department made up of librarians and staff with expertise in purchasing, licensing, metadata, and description who work together within a dynamic and collaborative team structure to acquire a diverse array of library materials and make them robustly discoverable to advance instruction and scholarship across campus.
This librarian will collaborate closely with colleagues in Scholarly Communications and across the library to ensure licensing guidelines, strategy, and negotiated agreements uphold the organization's commitment to Sustainable Scholarship and other priorities. The person in this role will work closely with colleagues in Resource Acquisitions & Management to coordinate decision-making around complex renewals, participate in troubleshooting access to e-resources with a cross-functional team of Technical Services staff, and be central to the libraries' effective licensing and implementation of open access agreements.
As the library deepens its strong commitment to digital accessibility, this position will be pivotal in supporting work to document the accessibility of our licensed e-resources and advocating with vendors for compliance with existing standards. This position will contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of local workflows, documentation, and record-keeping practices for electronic resources management, including training and supervising student workers and staff as needed. Additionally, the person in this role will oversee the department's collection of e-resources usage statistics and collaborate with stakeholders across the libraries to synthesize data and develop meaningful insights for local decision-making and assessment efforts.
In addition to working collaboratively with colleagues across the libraries, the E-Resources Acquisitions Librarian establishes and maintains professional relationships with library material vendors and publishers in support of e-resource acquisitions and access; serves on relevant Library committees, task forces, and working groups and represents UNC University Libraries at consortial and professional venues related to electronic resources licensing, acquisitions, and management; and contributes to the professional dialogue and a wide variety of relevant Library initiatives.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement to include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
