Basic Purpose: Working in a mentor relationship with Retail Assistant Manager(s) to learn the functions, attitudes, leadership qualities, policies, and procedures of a Retail Supervisor. Also, to provide vision, focus and direction for assigned team.
Basic Function: To provide hands on supervisory leadership at the department level to achieve “World-Class” service within the assigned department. Provide leadership in such a manner that guests will feel welcomed, team members are valued. With a strong focus on “Southern Hospitality”.
General Responsibilities:
- Grand Open Readiness. Focus on every aspect of the in-store experience in the assigned department which includes but is not limited to: store appearance, merchandising, dusted racks, vacuumed floors, fully stocked fixtures, name badges, facility maintenance needs such as: temperature, light bulb replacement, etc. This is a major part of the guest experience.
- Guest Experience Manager on Duty (GEM Duty) 3-5 times each week. During this assigned period the GEM is the go to member of management intended to field questions from guests, monitor overall floor coverage and guest experience, give prices, and change to cash registers. Also, carry the 10’ pole at assigned time.
- Execute and participate in the management and leadership of various retail projects, with a primary focus on weekly sales floor space adjustments assigned by the Retail Assistant Manager/Director of Retail Sales.
- Supervise and develop retail team at department level. This includes coaching in the moment and in private. Also includes participation in the disciplinary process.
- Participate in the interview process for specific openings within assigned department
- Owner of on boarding process. This is the period of time when a new team member is acclimated and adjusted to our company and culture. This includes brand talking points, engagement training, register training as well as company/department specific policies and procedures. Supervisor is required to spend 8 hours with a new hire working directly, 1:1 with that person.
- Promote positive communication within the department as well as store wide; teamwork. Open Door policy is necessary. Always communicating information from team member to mgmt. and then information from mgmt. to team members in a timely fashion.
- Retail Scheduling and Department Coverage: Approve and/or make change recommendations for the weekly department schedule provided by the retail scheduler, manage breaks/lunch schedule and coverage, manage call-ins and monitor attendance issues.
- Work with team members to achieve merchandising/in stock standards as set forth by management.
- Review merchandise mix about fixture requirements. Make recommendations for appropriate merchandising/layout to achieve efficient use of space to facilitate reaching department sales growth numbers annually.
- Responsible for key retail metrics: average ticket, transaction growth, conversion rate, email POS conversion and Trip Advisor positive ratings. Each of these areas have goals assigned annually. These goals support the plan/goal number for retail each year.
- Work with the Retail Assistant Manager(s)/IDT Manager/Director of Retail Sales to coordinate various product promotions that support externally promoted events.
- Lead the Markdown Process within assigned Department. Markdowns typically occur every two weeks in apparel departments and once a month in hardline departments.
- Demonstrate knowledge of company policies and procedures as well as department specific policies and procedures. Supervise that team members are carrying out these policies and procedures.
- Have working knowledge of proper opening and closing procedures for retail management. This supports grand open readiness and owning our team members’ drive home.
- Work under the direction of the Retail Assistant Manager to execute company initiatives and successfully achieve all goals, sales and budgets established
- Handle guest inquiries and quickly resolve the guest complaints and problems
- Employee Check-outs
- Assisting with change to cash registers
- Report suspicious activity to Asset Protection, Manager, or Assistant Manager
- All other tasks assigned by management

Qualifications Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED
- Prior retail experience
- Previous retail management experience a plus
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Light to moderate lifting is required
- Repetitive motion is required
Development Requirements:
- Participation in weekly Retail Leadership Team Meetings
- Participation weekly Retail Sales Team Meetings
- Participation in weekly 1:1 development session with Assistant Manager
- Participation in monthly 1:1 development session with Director of Retail Sales
- Lead Regular 1:1 development meetings with team members within assigned department
- Lead Department meetings as often as needed (not more frequently than once/month)
Schedule Hours:
- 40 hours per week, requiring one to being as early as 7:00 am and stay as late as 6:30-7:30/8:00 pm (potentially 8:30 pm for extended holiday hours). Flexibility in scheduling is required.
- Saturdays are required, with averaging one Saturday off each month.
- All major holidays are required, excluding Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day
- 90% of time should be spent physically on the sales floor Monday-Friday
- 100% of time should be spend physically on the sales floor on Saturdays and during major or minor holidays
Reporting Relationship: Reports directly to Retail Assistant Manager
