Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Security, the Cultural Security Officer provides a professional visual presence and elevated level of customer service while ensuring the security and safety of the Museums visitors, staff, and collections. Officers maintain a safe environment by conducting active patrols, taking appropriate action in response to alarming events, emergencies, and incidents, and reporting facility maintenance issues. The Cultural Security officer proactively approaches issues with sound judgment and a positive demeanor.

Responsibilities/Principal Duties:

Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for visitors while enforcing gallery guidelines and Museums code of conduct.

Patrol areas of assignment to prevent theft, damage, and vandalism of property as well as designated mechanical areas and report any mechanical failures.

Actively manage surveillance and access control systems, acknowledge alarms, and dispatch officers to specific areas within the gallery as needed.

Interventions and provide backup support to other officers during incidents for which intervention may be necessary.

Monitor daily functionality of all alarm systems, security systems, and electronic surveillance systems according to standard operating procedures.

Record activities, including logging in of all visitors and vendors entering the building.

Provide security escorts, as assigned, for maintenance or other activities throughout the gallery.

Complete daily activity logs, incident reports, key management, and access control logs.

Assist with event set up and break down, including placement and packing of furniture, taking out trash, and additional basic cleaning.

Answer phone calls from both in-house and outside parties.

Qualifications:

· Must be able to communicate effectively and provide a high level of customer service.

· Must maintain a clean and professional appearance and adhere to uniform policies.

· Must be available to work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends on an as-needed basis.

· Ability to conduct monthly inspections of emergency lighting, extinguishers, and basic alarm point maintenance.

· Ability to record and maintain security logs, as well as document daily and monthly checks.

· Ability to enforce basic rules of conduct in a firm yet friendly manner.

· Must possess basic knowledge of security principles.

· Ability to carry out emergency evacuations.

· Advanced Computer skills necessary for gallery monitoring, security and HVAC systems, time entry, online shift scheduler, and emailing.

· Experience with electronic surveillance and security systems.

· CPR and AED certification strongly encouraged.

· Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

· Must be able to walk, stand, and maintain posts for extended periods of time and for multiple hours at a time.

· Must be able to safely maneuver, crouch under, and climb around, up, and over mechanical spaces and ship ladders.

· Job assignment is classified as essential and requires personnel to report to work to ensure the operation of essential functions during inclement weather, emergencies, and/or when the school has suspended operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

· Must be able to lift 40 lbs.

· Must remain alert and functional throughout the shift

· Must be able to walk, stand, and maintain posts for long periods and for multiple hours at a time.

· Must be able to safely maneuver, crouch under, and climb around, up, and over mechanical spaces and ship ladders.

· Job assignment is classified as essential and requires personnel to report to work to ensure the operation of essential functions during inclement weather, emergencies, and/or when the school has suspended operations.

Pay: $19.00 - $20.50 per hour
