The Associate Director of Prospect Research is responsible for the proactive identification, research, and analysis of individual and corporate prospects and donors to strengthen annual, major, and principal fundraising and engagement activities across all priority areas.
This position is responsible for portfolio development, prospect pools, managing research requests, and helping to maintain accurate donor information. The Associate Director of Prospect Research reports to the AVP of Prospect Management and Research and will work collaboratively with various members of the Development, Event, and Operations teams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Conduct proactive and reactive research on individual and corporate prospects, analyzing prospects' financial capacity, ability to give, willingness to give, charitable interests, current and potential connections to the University of North Dakota (UND), and philanthropic interests that align with university initiatives.
- Estimate and verify donor gift capacity through the analysis of complex individual, corporate, and foundation financial and philanthropic information.
- Compose detailed research materials on principal-gift ($1M ) individual, corporate, and foundation prospects as requested and proactively.
- Utilize internal and external sources such as CRMA, iWave, LinkedIn, Salesforce, SEC data, and others to identify and prioritize prospects to drive overall fundraising goals of the development team.
- Develop curated prospect lists for University President and UNDAAF leadership and others.
- Create targeted invitation lists for various functions that support the fundraising and engagement goals of the university.
- Conduct background checks on principal gift prospects to ensure alignment with the institution's mission and culture, and to mitigate any potential risks.
- Maintain Salesforce database records and monitor data hygiene of prospect data.
- Identify new tools, methodologies, processes, and procedures to strengthen research and prospect management programs.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
3-7 years experience in fundraising, preferably higher education, or demonstrated success in customer / client relations or sales management.
PHYSICAL and COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
Ability to operate computers, telephones, and other standard office equipment. Ability to focus and complete work in a timely manner. Ability to travel independently via car and air. Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, squat, and lift or move objects up to 10 pounds.
