What are the responsibilities and job description for the Animal Care Specialist position at Underdog Animal Rescue & Rehab?
Underdog Animal Rescue & Rehab is located in Moab, Utah and is the only dog rescue in the state that exclusively serves the estimated 500,000 stray and unwanted pets of the Four Corners Native American Reservation region. We do this through intake and adoption efforts and monthly free/low-cost spay, neuter, vaccine, and wellness clinics we hold in the Navajo Nation.
-Animal Care Specialist: Our perfect candidate is committed to our mission, able to adapt to a challenging environment, have strong communication & organizational skills, and be able to represent the organization professionally. Experience in shelter or clinic medicine, and knowledge of medical lingo is a plus, but not required as long as you are interested in learning. You should be compassionate and a team player! Each of the roles in our organization is key to our mission, and critical in its own way. In this role, you will be the liaison with our vets and get to know the dogs in our care. A normal week could entail dosing and recording meds, assessing and caring for injured or ill dogs, determining vet visits, talking with foster families, hosting meet and greets, medical data entry, and answering texts, emails, and phone calls. You should be able to maintain and project a great attitude in dealing with a diverse group of adopters, volunteers, and your team members. You are innovative and interested in furthering the mission of the organization and the wellbeing of the dogs in our care. You love being a matchmaker to assure that both people and dogs are going to be happy together for a long term fit.
