Job Title: Hydrographic Surveyor

This position supports dredging, and construction projects and specializes in precise positioning of equipment, and acquisition/processing of data in marine environments. Responsible for performing hydrographic surveys and maintaining positioning instrumentation on survey and dredging vessels.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct hydrographic surveys in support of dredging, navigation, coastal works, port constructions, etc.
- Install and maintain accuracy of instrumentation on company dredges and survey vessels.
- Participate in pre-survey planning meetings with project team and Owner representatives.
- Sets up, adjusts, and operates survey equipment in order to measure distances, elevations, and angles.
- Operates survey boats.
- Safely launches, recovers and tows survey vessels.
- Responsible for coordinating maintenance and repairs of survey vessels with equipment personnel.
- Gathers survey data utilizing HYPACK/DREDGEPACK software.
- Collects and processes data though the use of Real-Time Kinematic Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers and electronic tide gauges.
- Performs complex surveying calculations using engineering calculator, laptop computer, and surveying software.
- Demonstrate functional knowledge of survey industry standards and CAD products.
- Possess average to above average computer skills.
- Maintain log of daily activities.
- Prepares field notes and drawings.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Knowledge of Teledyne Blueview and Koda Octopus.
Required Skills and Experience
- 2 or more years experience in the Survey or Geoscience industry as a survey professional
- Familiarity with multibeam systems such as Kongsberg, Norbit, Teledyne and acquisition software such as Seafloor Information Systems (SIS) and Norbit DCT
- Ability to work irregular hours, rotating weekends, and shift work
- Candidate is detail-oriented with a disciplined approach to communications, processes, and projects
- Interest and passion for new technology applications for ocean mapping
- Must be able to pass a background check.
