Position Purpose:
Assist in making UNFI the best place to work and invest in by developing and implementing programs that provide a safe and a secure environment for associates and company assets. Deliver on a critical UNFI value: “Do the Right Thing” by putting Safety and Integrity at the forefront of everything we do. This is accomplished by ensuring Asset Protection and security policies are implemented in our Distribution Centers (DCs) to protect associates as well as managing shrink due to theft, fraud, and damage resulting from carelessness or disregard, through use of policies, technology, and existing resources. This role will be a key leader collaborating closely with DC Operations, Human Resources, EH&S, Inventory Control teams, and other DC partners
Essential Functions:
- Develop, promote and execute company-wide and site-specific security procedures and awareness programs to safeguard our people, product, and property. Partner and collaborate with distribution center Operations management to establish protocols and programs to reduce shrink / loss of product and property.
- Collaborate with Operations and HR to conduct timely and thorough investigations into threats, theft, workplace violence, and other sensitive matters and document findings.
- Plan the development of the Emergency Action Plan for the distribution center and ensure it is kept up to date. Coordinate with local law enforcement on response to incidents and proactive patrolling around our distribution center and performs other relevant job duties as required.
- Respond to incidents related to threats and workplace violence and take immediate action to protect our associates.
- Train and orient new associates regarding security protocols and Workplace Violence Prevention.
- Manages the contract security guard force and security equipment at the distribution center including access control/ID badges, security camera equipment, alarm systems, door alarms, and other technology to protect associates and physical assets.
Job Requirements:
- 10 years relevant experience (corporate security, private or corporate investigations, law enforcement, or military) required or AA degree in a related field 5 years relevant experience preferred /BS degree in a related field and 3 years relevant experience preferred.
- CPP (Certified Protection Professional); or PSP Physical Security Professional is highly valued.
- WZ Certified (Wicklander-Zulawski) is highly valued.
Experience/Knowledge:
- Ability to coordinate planning and collaboration with other business functions in a way that is mutually beneficial and drives continuous improvement.
- Ability to drive a strong security philosophy and implement programs designed to effectively change behavior and prevent security incidents.
- Ability to analyze and independently resolve a variety of difficult situations and problems using timely decision making.
- Knowledge or experience with supply chain security, warehouse, or distribution center services
- Experience conducting investigations, interviews and report writing
- Experience with CCTV, AC, Alarm monitoring security systems
- Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Physical Environment/ Demands:
- Some travel will be required
- Work weekends and/or overnight shifts as necessary
- Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment
- Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; stooping; bending; twisting; overall coordination and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places may be required
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone and other office equipment in the course of normal workday
- Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in perishable operations and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in grocery operations
