The Staff Accountant, Corporate Accounting, will support the overall Corporate Accounting group in our goal of timely and materially accurate period-end close processing and financial reporting. The role will have accounting responsibilities primarily relating to the consolidation process, elimination of intercompany transactions, and other corporate accounting functions.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in preparing the consolidation process for multiple legal entities, including reconciling, adjusting, and eliminating intercompany transactions in accordance with accounting policies.
- Assist in the accounting for the Company's derivative financial instruments following ASC 815.
- Assist in the accounting for certain self-insurance costs per ASC 450.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations under corporate accounting policies.
- Responsible for researching, tracking, and resolving accounting issues and discrepancies.
- Proactively partner and coordinate with other departments to ensure accurate accounting for the areas of responsibility.
- Assists in supporting internal and external audit requests.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and coordination with others including peers across finance, business stakeholders, and management.
- Performs other relevant job duties as required.
Education/ Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- 2 years of accounting-related experience.
- Wholesale distribution or retail experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to partner with a multitude of key stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of US GAAP and the ability to apply accounting guidance to transactions.
- Proficiency with advanced Excel functions.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Able to identify process inefficiencies and implement effective solutions.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.
- This position is classified as remote, where an associate will perform remote work from their primary residence. Remote associates are welcome to work from the office but are not required to do so. While remote associates are not required to work from an office regularly, they must go into the office or other UNFI locations for necessary business reasons or if directed to do so by their manager.
- Travel is not required for this position.
- Incumbent may sit for long periods at a desk or computer terminal.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephones, and other office equipment during a normal workday.
