Mechanical Engineer I

SUMMARY:

The engineer will be responsible for coordinating, tracking and completion of mechanical design projects throughout the company. Some of these design projects include application specific general-purpose servers, general purpose base servers platforms, integration of special purpose PCIe cards within server platforms, and qualification and testing of server platforms.  The candidate will be responsible for multiple interdependent projects at any given time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Hands-on technical design responsibility for server platforms and related componentry including:

• Design of sheet metal enclosures within corporate standards.
• Design of interconnection technologies within the products.
• Design and tooling coordination of injection molded plastic parts.

• Design of complex thermal cooling systems of high-density server enclosures.
• Testing and verification of design to corporate and industry standards.
• Coordination of activities with contract mechanical design engineering resources.
• Creation of Bill of Materials (BOM) to support the manufacturing process on the corporate Documentation Control System.
• Member of the project team.
• Prioritize projects and activities under the guidance of supervisor.
• Create and maintain mechanical design project plans.
• Learn about Company’s business as appropriate. Shows up to work on time and attends work as scheduled.
• All other duties as requested by direct supervisor or department head.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Requires in-depth knowledge of computer components.
• Strong experience with sheet metal, cabling, labeling and shipping carton fabrication practices.
• High degree of proficiency with CAD tools, preferably SolidWorks.
• Strong knowledge of materials and fabrication processes.
• Requires in depth knowledge of the packaging requirements of high-performance computing platforms, with experience in 1U application and storage servers preferable.
• Working knowledge of ISTA testing methods and reporting practices.
• Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 GD&T.
• Working knowledge of CFD and FEA tools.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• BSME degree required. 
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Ability to read, write and speak English. 
• Ability to compose reports and correspondence. 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to use word processing, spreadsheets and electronic office tools.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Knowledge of basic addition, subtraction, division and multiplication of numbers is required. Plus working knowledge of 2-year college calculus coursework is required, as a minimum.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
