Position Summary:
The Upstream Manufacturing Scientist is responsible for executing mammalian cell culture processes and producing recombinant proteins for biosimilars in a cGMP environment. The role involves managing bioreactor operations (50L to 2000L), clarification processes, and batch execution, including initiating batch records, protocols, and investigations. The candidate must work collaboratively within a team and independently with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Execute upstream batches (cell culture and bioreactor operations) at multiple scales.
- Perform harvest clarification using centrifuges and depth filters.
- Ensure timely execution of engineering and clinical batches.
- Improve manufacturing techniques and establish equipment specifications.
- Use data to make adjustments to products, instruments, or equipment.
- Follow GMP instructions and environmental health & safety policies.
- Review batch records and support documentation.
- Coordinate investigations for issues during batch execution.
- Comply with company policies and standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in chemical, biological, or biochemical sciences.
- 3 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry.
- Experience with GMP and aseptic manufacturing environments.
- Proficient with single-use consumables (bags, tubes, columns).
- Strong communication, organization, and computer skills.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Ability to work flexible hours and under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Occasional travel may be required.
