REPORTS TO: Shift Supervisor or Sergeant FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt CLASSIFICATION: Non-merit; Serves at the discretion of the Sheriff. Reserve members will serve a 12 month evaluation period. PAY GRADE: Public Safety Step Plan (SO1)SAFETY SENSITIVE: Yes; Subject to random drug testing per the Athens-Clarke County Drug and Alcohol Ordinance.Purpose of Job Reserve Detention Officer: The purpose of this position is to ensure security and protection of property of the jail facility, complete the admission process of inmates, prevent escapes, control behavior of inmates, protect inmates from each other, and provide for the wellbeing of inmates. The incumbent must be diligent in maintaining an inmate count, overseeing the dispensing of medication, and be able to take personal property of inmates. The incumbent must also adhere to definite standard operating procedures established by the Office to ensure that the inmates' constitutional rights are observed. It is a demanding position that requires a heightened state of readiness at all times. A person in this position does not supervise other employees.Reserve Deputy Sheriff: The purpose of this job is to preserve the peace and enforces the laws of the State of Georgia. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, protecting life and property, enforcing state laws, maintaining jail security, serving warrants and civil papers, providing courthouse and courtroom security, transporting prisoners, performing necessary functions to ensure safety and well-being of inmates, employees and visitors. It is a demanding position, and when assigned to the jail it requires a heightened state of readiness at all times. Some examples of emergencies include inclement weather, utility failure, fire or other forced evacuations or as determined by the Manager or safe and effective operation of the jail.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
High school diploma or equivalent required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.Must be a United States Citizen.Must be at least 18 years of age.Must complete the core module requirements of the jail training program within 2 months of hire. Must obtain certification in First Aid and CPR within 3 months of hire. Must complete GCIC Security and Awareness training within 10 days of hire.For Reserve Detention Officer position: Must possess Basic Jail Certification. If already Corrections Certified you can apply to POST and received your Jail Certification. For Reserve Deputy Sheriff position: Must possess and maintain current certification requirements set forth in the Georgia Mandate Law Enforcement Training Act/Peace Officer's Standards and Training Act.Valid Driver's License required.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
(ADA) MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including, telephones, copiers, two-way radios, and physical restraint equipment. Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion. Must be able to exert in excess of one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of fifty pounds of force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for heavy work. May be required to physically restrain hostile persons of much greater size. May be required to physically defend oneself from violent physical attack by persons with intent on inflicting serious bodily injury or death. DATA CONCEPTION: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things. INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to hear, speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving / receiving assignments and/or directions to co-workers or assistants / from supervisors. LANGUAGE ABILITY: Requires ability to read a variety of state criminal and civil codes, departmental directives, civil processes, state criminal and traffic codes, Unified Government ordinances, court procedures, and informational documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures. Requires the ability to prepare incident reports, daily logs, arrest reports, time sheets, etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak to groups of people with poise, voice control, and confidence. INTELLIGENCE: Requires the ability to learn and understand complex principles and techniques; to acquire and be able to expound on knowledge of topics related to primary occupation; and to make independent judgment in theabsence of management. VERBAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, and to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of administrative, technicalor professional languages including legal terminology. NUMBERICAL APTITUDE: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide and determine percentages.Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, visually with various equipment. MOTOR COORDINATION: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes in using law enforcement and office equipment. Requires the ability to lift, push, bend and pull objects or materials using body parts as the position necessitates. Requires skilled movements coordinating eyes, hands and fingers accurately and making precise movements with speed. MANUAL DEXTERITY: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as telephones, copiers, two-way radios, physical restraint methods and related security equipment. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have moderate levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. COLOR/VISUAL DISCRIMINATION Position requires binocular vision with good depth perception and peripheral vision, motion detection, high acuity, and light adaptation, as well as the ability to differentiate between colors andshades of color. INTERPERSONAL TEMPERAMENT: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under considerable stress when confronted with an emergency.PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION: Requires the ability to talk and/or hear: (Talking - expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words). (Hearing - perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to communicate via telephone, two-way radio.
