Overview
The School Nutrition I role is essential in promoting health and wellness through the provision of balanced and nutritious meals. This position provides the optimum in wholesome, nutritious, safe and appealing meals to students, staff, and guests in a timely and cost-efficient manner. It involves working closely with a team to ensure that dietary needs are met while adhering to safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a passion for nutrition and a commitment to enhancing the well-being of individuals through food service.
Duties
1. Serve as cook/baker for large quantity entree or baked items:
- Maintain current and updated recipe files for all large quantity food preparation items;
- Establish portions and quantities to be cooked/baked;
- Ensure sufficient and complete inventory of all ingredients to be used;Prepare and serve nutritious meals in accordance with dietary guidelines and individual needs.
- Ensure that all equipment is maintained and in full operational order;
- Ensure that all foods/baked items are properly and thoroughly cooked/baked;
- Maintain accurate production records (which includes the calculation of meal equivalents) and temperature records for large quantity. food preparation items;
- Maintains work area in a state of cleanliness.
2. Provides functional leadership and support within the work group.
3. Support all local food preparation and service including setting up the local food service line, warmers, condiments.
4. Display food in an attractive and appealing manner.
5. Serve as School Nutrition II during meal periods and as needed.
6. Participate and assist in kitchen and cafeteria clean up.
7. Support menu planning, provide input and review me.nus, provide and maintain records of food use and provide estimates for future needs.
8. Ensure proper inventory and inventory control; take inventory and maintain inventory records, review inventory needs in light of future menus; suggest packing requirements; and order product or make recommendations for product orders.
9. Support district efforts, promotion, customer service orientation, admission, and nutritional planning and marketing.
10. School Nutrition I is expected to be able to perform and will perform School Nutrition II and School Nutrition III duties as needed.
11. Additional periodic activities:
- Kitchen start-up at the beginning of each school year;
- Full kitchen house-cleaning at the end of each school year;
- Additional cleaning in accordance with the maintenance schedule or as directed by the School Nutrition, i.e. cleaning of ovens, special disinfecting, scrubbing of floors, and the like;
- Maintaining a bulletin board.
12. All other duties as assigned.

14. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace in compliance with Policy 4122.01 throughout his/her employment in the District.
Qualifications
- High school degree/ GED and three years of progressive experience, or directly related Associate Degree and one year of progressive occupational experience.
- ServSafe Course completion.
- Basic understanding of HAACP requirements.
- Bask understanding of food allergies.
- Fully knowledgeable in food safety and hygiene.
- Occupational experience in large food service operations.
- Math skills sufficient to adapt recipe portions to varying group sizes.
- Ability to operate all kitchen equipment and appliances associated with hulk food, i.e. mixers, slicers, steam tables, blenders, dishwashers, and the like.
- Specialized knowledge and skills in operating large production ovens, stoves and ranges.
- Familiar with all job duties within the kitchen and ability to provide general work direction.
- Ability to move 50 pounds of prepared food and supplies, and to pile and stack inventory as required. Physical capabilities include bending, twisting, repetitive side-to-side motion and repetitive wrist motion, as well as the ability to reach, carry, push, pull, lift and handle item(s) weighing up to 50 pounds while performing work duties. Position requires unrestricted mobility on a regular and consistent basis for the majority of the workday.
- Demonstrable ability to work with children of the appropriate age as evidenced by prior experience with youth.
Additional "Preferred" Qualifications:
- 1 year experience in a leadership role, e.g. lead cook/baker, shift manager, working supervisor or the like.
- Training in large production cooking/baking, food handling, food safety and kitchen hygiene.
