Senior Accountant Job Description
Job Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing travel agency. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the preparation of financial reports, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. As a Senior Accountant, you will play a key role in our accounting operations, providing financial insights, and assisting with budgeting and forecasting. You will work closely with management and other departments to ensure the financial health of the business as we continue to expand.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Analyze financial data and prepare reports for management to help with business decisions.
- Assist in the preparation of year-end financial statements and audits.
- Ensure proper accounting for transactions, including revenue, expenses, and travel-related payments.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring all entries are accurate and up to date.
- Monitor accruals, prepaids, and deferrals in accordance with accounting standards.
- Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring accuracy and timely processing of invoices.
- Manage relationships with vendors and clients to ensure smooth financial transactions.
- Ensure timely collections from clients and resolve any payment discrepancies.
- Assist with the preparation of tax filings and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
- Prepare and review documentation for regulatory filings and support the audit process.
- Monitor compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Assist in the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Track budget performance and report any variances to senior management.
- Provide financial analysis and support for business decisions related to growth or expansion.
- Lead the month-end close process to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded and reconciled.
- Support year-end closing procedures and financial reviews/audits.
- Identify and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency in accounting operations.
- Work with management to implement automated systems or tools to improve financial reporting and tracking.
- Provide financial support and guidance to other departments, such as sales, marketing, and operations.
- Work with the finance team to analyze trends, costs, and opportunities within the travel industry.
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of collaboration, efficiency, and professional growth.
- Provide training on financial policies, accounting software, and best practices.
- Support the hiring and onboarding of new team members as the agency continues to expand.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of accounting experience, with 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience in the travel or hospitality industry is preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and regulations.
- Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
- Experience with month-end closing, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
- Ability to analyze complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
