Job Description

Position: Custodain
Pay $14-$14.50

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Lead Custodian

Purpose: To work with Lead Custodian to maintain campus building .

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Use cleaning supplies and equipment to keep the interior of the building looking clean

  • Respond to emergency cleaning requests quickly and with a professional manner

  • Adhere to the company’s safety policies to create a safe work environment for everyone

  • Perform routing cleaning tasks based on a schedule created by the facility management team

  • Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, mopping, vacuuming and dusting surfaces

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures. (e.g.Wash and sanitize toilets, sinks and showers and restock disposables (e.g. soap)

  • Wipe mirrors and windows

  • Maintain outer premises by cleaning entrances

  • Secure facilities after operating hours by locking doors, closing windows and setting up the alarm. Maintain safety of facilities by checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights.

  • Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc. if needed.

  • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets when needed.

  • Use and maintain assigned equipment (e.g. brooms, mops, etc)

  • Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies. Use all supplies as directed.

Desired Training and Hands-On experience

High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of custodian operations.

  • Training or experience in the full range of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in Custodian operations.

  • Ability to manage custodian assets to include materials, insuring proper use of equipment, etc.

  • Knowledge of safe work practices.

  • Ability to relate, cooperate and coordinate with principals, teachers, staff, other coordinators and managers to accomplish the overall mission and vision.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards required to perform essential job functions:

Physical Requirements: Position requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.

Interpersonal Communication: Ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions to subordinates. Includes receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.

Language Ability: Ability to read a variety of work orders, service records, building and machinery diagrams, technical books, etc. Requires the ability to prepare work orders, time cards, and maintenance reports, using prescribed format.

Intelligence: Ability to apply principles or rational systems as applied to building maintenance to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled form.

Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to use and interpret terminology and language associated with building maintenance.

Numerical Aptitude: Ability to utilize mathematical formulas, to add and subtract totals, multiply and divide, and to determine percentages and decimals.

Motor Coordination: Ability to operate motor vehicles.

Interpersonal Temperament: Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress.

Physical Communication: Ability to talk and hear (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to communicate via a telephone.
