Job Description
Position: Assistant Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports to: Principal
Purpose: The Assistant Principal serves as a member of the administrative team to develop and implement the total school program
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in the implementation of student orientation and registration activities
Assists in the development and establishing of the school goals and objectives and the planning of the schools instructional program.
Assists in providing direction to staff in implementing goals and objectives and interacts and meets with staff to assist in their development.
Assists in the evaluation of the school program and of staff and assists to initiate needed improvements.
Assists in the preparation and management of schedules and in the coordination and implementation of the co-curricular program.
Assists in defining and disseminating information about school disciplinary policies and procedures to parents, students, staff and community.
Communicates and carries out established policies, delegates and accepts responsibility for completion of tasks and communicates program goals, objectives and policies to the community.
Assists in supervising and maintaining auxiliary services and uses community resources to supplement the school program.
Promotes and maintains open communications, positive student attitudes, respects dignity, worth of staff, students, and complies with established lines of authority.
Assists in completion of records and reports and in the supervision and inventory of transportation needs.

Desired Training and Hands-On experience
Shall hold a Master’s degree/higher or work to obtain the degree.Shall hold a North Carolina Principal’s License or a School Administrator’s License.
Shall have at least three years of successful experience as a classroom teacher.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School may find appropriate and acceptable.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards required to perform essential job functions:
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, adding machines, etc. Position requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. This includes giving instructions, assignments or directions to parents, students, and staff.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagrammatic form.
Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow written and oral instructions. You must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in Standard English.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. You must be adaptable to performing under minimal to moderate levels of stress.
Assessment: Performance of this job will be assessed annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on assessment of administrative personnel.
