What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communication Center Coordinator position at Union County College?
Under the direction of the Dean of the Scotch Plains and Virtual Campus, the Communication Center Coordinator serves as key liaison and administrative support for the Communication Center. The work of the Communication Center Coordinator involves managing all outreach communications campaigns, and response to critical enrollment and retention messages for specific student cohorts and managing student success communication projects as delegated by the Dean. The Coordinator will aid in the gathering and use of data to improve communication and enrollment efforts. The position develops and manages outreach campaigns, meetings, and other enrollment, retention, and student success-related communication. Additionally, the Coordinator is responsible for the training and oversight of Communication Center Student Ambassadors. The position focuses on delivering professionalized communication with current, prospective, and former students and other stakeholders of the College.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
- The Coordinator works closely with Communication Center staff and is responsible for the successful deployment and implementation of the department’s priorities.
- Develops and implements communication strategies across departments and divisions as part of strategic enrollment, retention, and success campaigns via various modes of communications, including telephone, texting, email, and other communication platforms .
- Leverage AI and other technology platforms to design and manage communication campaigns, ensuring regular communication with the Dean of the Scotch Plains and Virtual Campus
- Collaborate with other college departments to strengthen communication and support for current and future students and alumni.
- Responds to and assists incoming and currently enrolled students through student service processes, via multiple modes of communication.
- Ensures information posted on the College’s website, chatbot and other Communication Center platforms is accurate and current.
- Uses data to develop communication campaigns that are customized and relevant to improve student engagement
- Reports on and develops data-focused dashboards on Communication Center activities as it relates to incoming and outgoing communication trends and identifies opportunities for improvement.
- Reads, interprets, and communicates academic and student-related policies and procedures.
- Recommends improvements in department procedures. Collaborates with other staff/administrators/faculty to identify needed improvements in procedures and communication.
- Answers questions and provides excellent customer service to students and others who contact the Communication Center.
- Maintains records of students served and services provide. Maintains essential records and files.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in higher education or related field required.
Experience
- Experience in communication or higher education is preferred.
- Applicants who have experience with digital/traditional communication, marketing, and/or call centers.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- This position’s duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
- Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
- Some travel required.

Terms of Employment
Full Time. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours may be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Overtime may be required throughout the year, especially at peak times. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
