This means we need someone who not only loves our animals but also has a desire to understand and care for those considering adoption. We want employees who want help on both ends of the leash. Experience in animal handling, training and customer service are a plus. Familiarity with Shelterluv and/or Volgistics is not required but it is preferred.

Job Description Below
Purpose of Position: Ensure exceptional customer service for all who interact with UCHS. Council customers and community on all services offered by UCHS to increase their support of our mission.
Continually strive to provide a higher quality of life and living standards for all animals under UCHS's care.
Position Summary:
- Uphold UCHS's mission
- Help all who walk through the doors with needs either through advice, materials, an adoption, or surrender.
- As requested, ensure the facility is ready and welcoming for all animals and people.
- Operate as the face of UCHS for all who enter the facility. Lead always with kindness.
- Be the first line of defense in identifying opportunities for improvement in all daily operations.
- Operate as Subject Matter Expert with all associated adoption and care software and practices needed to run the shelter.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Animal Care
1. Clean, sanitize and disinfect animal living environments to ensure overall animal health and comfort.
2. Move and manage animals as needed to clean, exercise, and enrich their lives.
3. Monitor and report changes or concerns in animal health or behavior.
4. Follow safety / caring protocols for people and animals. Create repeatable standards to keep visitors, volunteers and the public safe. Work with Executive Director to produce and continually improve support materials.
5. Assist where directed in the vetting of animals (medications, nail trims, etc.)
6. Commit to personal, professional development.
7. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Adoption
8. Serve as the primary customer service provider for UCHS guests.
9. Greet customers with a professional and positive attitude.
10. Assist guests interacting with adoptable animals and recommend potential pets who would be a good fit.
11. Provide general information about the behavior and care of animals available for adoption.
12. Assist clients picking up adopted animals following surgery, answering questions, and providing post-operative instructions.
13. Demonstrate empathy for all.
14. Answer the phone and screen and return calls
15. Process applications using the shelter systems. Provide suggestions on the use of the software.
16. Issue dog licenses.
17. Respond to emails and seek input where needed/unsure in responses.
18. File essential forms.
19. Be a helpful encouraging resource to volunteers.
20. Promote communication, operate as a liaison to build cooperation.
21. Work closely with UCHS staff to ensure accurate communication of information.
22. Attend events when requested.
23. Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License and insurable driving record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Longer hours when necessary and demanded by the population and/or special cases. Extended periods of sitting, standing, stretching, and bending. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a normal shelter setting including exposure to hazardous chemicals and potential exposure to parasites and infectious diseases that can be carried and transmitted by animals.
