General Statement
Seeking several enthusiastic and creative individuals to work part-time in the reference department of Edwards Memorial Library in Marshville. Part-time employees will be working approximately 20 hours per week and will include some mornings, evenings, and Saturday hours. To do this job, you must possess strong customer engagement skills, a great sense of teamwork, and a passion for serving patrons. Our ideal candidates must be extremely tech savvy, possess strong interpersonal skills, and creativity. All positions in the reference department will be directly responsible for creating active and passive programming for adults, interacting with patrons, maintaining the collections, and assisting with technology.
Essential Functions
Responds to the needs of coworkers in work unit.
Helps maintain the collection.
Answers telephone queries quickly and efficiently, referring callers to the appropriate library department.
Maintains knowledge of library policy and procedure.
Reports any unsafe or threatening condition to library security personnel, administration, or proper authorities.
Attends staff development programs.
Possesses basic knowledge of library's electronic and physical resources.
Helps advocate for the library and its services in both internal and external settings.
Accepts changes in hours or assigned tasks as needed to provide excellent public service; adheres to assigned schedule with regular and dependable attendance.
POSITION SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
Reference Services
Effectively and courteously helps patrons select and locate materials and answers basic to intermediate inquiries using online resources and the reference and general collections. Offers suggestions and advice to patrons concerning individual reading preferences, services and programs, and how to use the library.
Assists patrons with the basic use and navigation of computing resources; efficiently and accurately uses office and computer equipment.
Responsible for ensuring that items are shelved daily and materials are kept in order and accessible to patrons and library staff. Additionally, shelves are to be read for accuracy of placement and kept neat and inviting.
Knowledge of and ability to speak to programs and services the library has to offer. Assists staff in carrying out programs, services and outreach activities.
Accurately records statistics.
Qualifications
Requires an Associate's Degree and one (1) year of experience of customer service; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires a Bachelor's Degree and one (1) year of customer service experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Library Specialist ($20.80 - $31.20 Hourly):
Requires a Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of experience in customer service; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Supplemental Information
Employees assigned to homebound must be physically able to drive a motor vehicle.
