Middle School Teacher - Music/Chorus
Union Day School, a K-12 International Baccalaureate (IB) candidate school located in Weddington North Carolina, is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Middle School Music Teacher to join our team. As part of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), this role is instrumental in fostering a love for music while developing students' creativity, critical thinking, and international-mindedness.
Position Overview:
The Middle School IB Music Teacher will design and deliver an engaging, inquiry-based music curriculum aligned with the IB framework. This teacher will inspire students to explore musical concepts, develop technical skills, and express themselves through musical performances and collaboration. The ideal candidate will be a passionate music educator who embraces the IB philosophy and is eager to contribute to a dynamic and innovative learning environment.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in music education required;
- North Carolina teacher certification in subject area;
- Experience with a wide range of musical instruments and genres;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences (including colleagues, students and families).
- Strong classroom management skills;
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn the IB MYP curriculum framework;
- Demonstrated professional behavior, including discretion, judgment and integrity.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver engaging lessons to execute the knowledge and love of music;
- Plan, organize, and conduct student performances, such as school concerts and other community and school events;
- Develop and deliver curriculum aligned to the NC course of study/standards;
- Develop and document syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and rubrics aligned to the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP);
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate music education into planned academic instruction;
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide academic feedback to students and families;
- Monitor student progress through frequent formal and informal student evaluations;
- Communicate with families and other key stakeholders;
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of current instructional practices in music education, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and families.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
Preferred:
- Teaching experience within the International Baccalaureate program;
- Experience teaching middle school music
