Position: Media Coordinator
Location: Union Elementary School
Terms of Contract: 10 months, full-time, benefit eligible
Reports To: Principal
Monthly Salary: State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement)
FLSA: EXEMPT
Qualifications/Requirements:
Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina School Library Media Coordinator License (Area 076).
Goal:
To provide all students with an enriched library environment containing a wide variety of materials that will invite intellectual growth, and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of media center resources.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain, operate and supervise the media center to which assigned
- Evaluate, select, and requisition new media center materials
- Assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials, and make media center materials available to supplement the instructional program
- Inform teachers and other staff members concerning new materials the media center acquires
- Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media center materials and instruct teachers and students on use of the system
- Arrange for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers
- Work with teachers in planning those assignments likely to lead to extended use of media center resources
- Promote appropriate conduct of students using media center facilities
- Help students to develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials in relation to planned assignments
- Present and discuss materials with a class studying a particular topic, on the invitation of the teacher
- Participate at curriculum meetings
- Counsel with and give reading guidance to students who have special reading problems or unusual intellectual interests
- Arrange frequently changing book-related displays and exhibits likely to interest the media center’s patrons
- Prepare and administer the media center budget
- Supervise media center aides in the performance of their duties
- Remove and update obsolete and worn materials from collections
- Supervise clerical routines necessary for the smooth operation of the media center
- Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
