The Role
The Union for Reform Judaism’s (URJ) Crane Lake Camp is seeking a dedicated and hands-on Facilities Manager to oversee and maintain the camp’s 100 acres in the heart of the scenic Berkshire Mountains in Western Massachusetts. This key role ensures that Crane Lake Camp remains a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for our community, fostering a sense of belonging. The Facilities Manager will provide year-round oversight, manage seasonal maintenance staff, and coordinate with external vendors to meet operational needs.

What You Will Do
Reporting directly to the Camp Director, the Facilities Manager is responsible for the following:
- Planning & Budgeting: Develop and implement facility improvement plans aligned with camp goals, financial sustainability, and operational efficiency. Manage the budget, ensuring financial accountability for purchases, bids, and inventory. Promote sustainability with best practices to minimize environmental impact.
- Vendor & Contractor Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, vendors, and municipal authorities to ensure smooth collaboration on facility projects and operations. Oversee the timely processing of invoices related to maintenance, housekeeping, and food service, in collaboration with the Camp’s Business Manager.
- Safety & Compliance: Prioritize safety and adhere to URJ policies, as well as local, state, and federal regulations, including safety, building codes, and camping standards. Address safety, security, and health hazards promptly, and manage emergency situations to minimize disruption.
- Facility Oversight: Manage all aspects of facility operations to align with camp objectives. Maintain accurate records of structures, equipment, supplies, and preventive maintenance schedules, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Oversee the camp's water treatment, sewage, and waste management systems. Prepare the camp for summer sessions and year-round events, ensuring the facilities are ready and well-maintained.
- Maintenance & Repairs: Support preventative maintenance and repairs across the camp’s buildings, grounds, and equipment. Perform non-permit-required mechanical repairs, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC. As needed work with vendors for maintenance and repairs. Manage seasonal tasks such as water drainage, snow removal, and preparation for rental groups. Perform general janitorial, housekeeping, and maintenance duties as directed by the supervisor.
- Staff Management: Supervise and train seasonal facility staff, ensuring adherence to safety protocols. Stay current with training to ensure staff are equipped to follow safety guidelines.

In-depth understanding of safety standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements, with the ability to ensure compliance across all camp operations. Ability to respond to facility-related emergencies promptly, efficiently, and effectively, minimizing disruption and maintaining safety.
- Project Management & Vendor Relations: Ability to plan, implement, and oversee facility projects from start to finish, ensuring that goals are met on time and within budget. Experience in negotiating and managing relationships with contractors, vendors, and external partners to ensure smooth operations and cost-effectiveness.
- Self-Management & Accountability: Strong ability to assess priorities and manage time effectively to meet goals while ensuring personal well-being. Skill in articulating needs and challenges clearly to foster a transparent and collaborative environment. Commitment to maintaining respectful communication and timely responses to colleagues and stakeholders.

- Licenses: Valid Driver’s License and Boater’s License required. Water Treatment License preferred or must be obtained within the first year.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
