The Outpatient Coder will be responsible for reviewing and accurately coding outpatient medical records, ensuring that diagnoses, procedures, and treatments are properly documented and billed. This position is essential to ensure timely, accurate claims submission and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review outpatient medical records, charts, and documentation to assign the correct ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes.
- Ensure accurate coding for outpatient services, including physician visits, procedures, and diagnostics.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to resolve any discrepancies in documentation or coding.
- Verify that all outpatient services comply with healthcare regulations and insurance guidelines.
- Work with the billing team to ensure that coded claims are submitted promptly and correctly.
- Maintain a strong understanding of coding updates, medical terminology, and healthcare regulations.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality standards to protect patient information.
- Assist with birth registration as well as other clerical task as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate's degree in health information technology or a related field preferred).
- Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) preferred.
- Previous experience in outpatient coding or medical coding is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with healthcare providers and staff.
- Knowledge of insurance billing practices and healthcare reimbursement processes.
