About the Job
This is a seniority-based position where you may be required to cover locations within the area you hold seniority other than the location hired. As a Railroad Freight Crew Specialist, you will work closely with engineers and yard controllers to ensure the efficient movement of trains. Your primary responsibilities include inspecting equipment and locomotives, performing tasks such as coupling and aligning drawbars, operating remote control locomotives, and communicating information to crews and dispatchers. You will also be required to maintain accurate documentation and prepare necessary materials. In addition, you will observe and comply with all railroad rules and regulations pertaining to safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
Requirements and Qualifications
To be eligible for this position, applicants must have reached the age of 18 or above and possess a valid driver's license. A clean driving record in the past 36 months, without any suspension, revocation, cancellation, or denial of their driver's license resulting from a drug or alcohol-related incident, is also required. Furthermore, applicants must not have been involved in diversion or probation or pleaded guilty to a drug or alcohol-related driving incident, and must not have refused to undergo a drug or alcohol test related to the operation of a motor vehicle. Successful completion of an assessment in English is also mandatory before proceeding to the interview stage.
Physical and Mental Job Requirements
Candidates are required to successfully pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT) before being considered for employment. This assessment will evaluate their ability to handle the demands of the job. Normal color vision and adequate depth perception are essential for accurately assessing the speed and distance of moving objects. Candidates must also have the strength to push, pull, lift, and carry objects weighing up to 85 pounds, as well as the capacity to perform physically demanding tasks, including bending, stooping, and kneeling. Good communication skills and the ability to engage in mentally challenging tasks are also necessary for this role.
