**Track Laborer - Regional Job Description**
Union Pacific Railroad Company is seeking a skilled and dedicated Track Laborer - Regional to join our team. This role plays a vital part in the upkeep and enhancement of railroad tracks within designated territories.
The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting essential maintenance, repairs, and installations to ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains. This involves identifying problems or defects through thorough inspections of railroad tracks, track beds, and track right-of-way.
The Track Laborer - Regional will also perform necessary repairs and replacements of rails, rail anchors, spikes, ballast, ties, and other components as required. Additionally, they will assist with handling, unloading, and movement of track materials and equipment from rail cars, carts, or trucks, which may involve digging holes and trenches.
Other key responsibilities include executing various track maintenance tasks, repairs, and installations, which may involve operating heavy equipment. The successful candidate will also maintain the track beds by removing vegetation and brush when necessary, sweep, pick, and dig out dust or snow from movable track parts, and adhere to company and industry safety rules, practices, and procedures at all times.
This role requires building and maintaining positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, and customers. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as well as the ability to effectively handle high-pressure situations. Ensuring strict compliance with all railroad rules and regulations regarding safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is also a critical aspect of this role.
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet specific qualifications and requirements, including age, valid driver's license, proficient verbal and written communication skills, experience reading and understanding instructions, and the ability to successfully complete an assessment in English before proceeding to the interview stage.
Preferred qualifications include possessing a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A or Class B, experience working outdoors in variable weather conditions, experience welding or holding a welding certificate, experience working in a construction-type setting, and experience operating heavy equipment such as construction, farm, etc.
The successful candidate will be required to pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT) before being considered for employment and must have the capacity to engage in physically demanding tasks, including occasional bending, stooping, and kneeling. They must also be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 65 lbs, push and pull objects up to 119 lbs, stand for extended periods, walk on uneven surfaces, and climb ladders to access truck storage as necessary.
This role requires frequent travel and the ability to work at locations where you are willing to reside and perform job duties. Demonstrated commitment to practicing safe work habits and having reliable transportation are also essential.
