Job Summary : The Department of Communication Arts at Union University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Digital Media Communications for the 2024 / 2025 academic year. Rank assignment commensurate with education / experience. This position includes competitive salary and benefits package.

The Communications Arts Department is a vibrant and creative community with around 100 majors in Communication Studies, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media Communications, and Film Studies. The department houses the award-winning Cardinal & Cream campus news source and magazine, an active Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter, the Bulldog Communication Group student-run firm, the national-championship Union University Debate Team, an NBS / AERho chapter, and the Union Film Society. This position’s primary focus is visual communications, teaching courses in digital photography and interactive design across the majors in the Communication Arts department through the lens of a Christian worldview. The successful candidate is expected to :

Teach a full-time course load of lower- and upper-level courses that span digital photography, photo editing, interactive design, publication design, and other classes based on the candidate’s experience and research specialties.
Supervise photographers for the Cardinal & Cream.
Maintain appropriate scholarship level through public dissemination of scholarly / creative works.
Advise students in their career and academic paths.
Participate on university committees as assigned.
Participate in program planning and departmental activities.
Apply Christian standards and attitudes in relationships with faculty colleagues, staff, and students.

Required Qualifications : Graduation from an accredited college or university with a terminal degree in Communication, Digital Media, Design, Photography, or a related field is required. ABD candidates will be considered. Effective teaching experience, evidence of scholarly potential, and a passion for teaching are also required.

Physical Requirements : The work performed by this position is of a general office and classroom nature. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to perform the following :

Speaking and hearing ability to sufficiently communicate in person or over the telephone.

Walk from office to the classroom and from one campus office to another office / building on campus.

Spend extended periods of time sitting and standing with occasional instances of bending and stooping. Classroom and laboratory settings require periods of standing and sitting for the duration of class (1 to 3 hours).

Ability to lift and carry files and materials, handle various types of media and equipment, occasionally required to lift and / or move up to 10 pounds, unless otherwise specified.

Have adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to read words and numbers and interact with people in person, on the phone, through a computer, and in writing. Requires the ability to identify, observe, and assess visual color discrimination and depth perception.

Ability to reach with hands and arms; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls (e.g. mouse, keyboard, telephone, lab equipment). Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment.
