Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Yard Jockey / Goat Hostler / Forklift Operator to play a hybrid role in our fast-paced facility. The ideal candidate will have expertise in operating various equipment, ensuring efficient movement of trailers and containers, and maintaining a strong focus on safety, accuracy, and speed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safe Operation: Move trailers, containers, and power units within the yard efficiently while adhering to all safety protocols.
- Equipment Handling: Operate yard trucks (goat hostlers), forklifts, and other heavy machinery with precision and expertise.
- Backing & Positioning: Safely back up and position trailers at docks for loading/unloading.
- Electrical Hookups: Connect and disconnect electrical power to refrigerated units (reefers) and other powered trailers.
- Loading & Unloading: Assist in ensuring loads are safely and properly handled using modern loading technology.
- Hybrid Role: Support multiple tasks, including forklift operation, yard management, and trailer coordination.
- Inventory & Reporting: Ensure empty containers are tracked and submitted properly to maintain an organized yard.
- Efficiency & Speed: Work quickly without compromising safety to keep the yard running smoothly and on schedule.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Yard Jockey, Forklift Operator, or in a similar role.
- Experience operating various types of equipment, including hostlers, forklifts, and trailers.
- Strong knowledge of trailer electrical connections and power units.
- Proven ability to safely back up trucks and position trailers.
- Understanding of loading/unloading technology and procedures.
- Commitment to safety standards and best practices in a high-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CDL license (required).
- Previous experience in warehouse/distribution environments.
- Familiarity with inventory tracking and yard management systems.
Schedule & Compensation:
- Full-time, [may change with seasons]
