What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Design Engineer - Fluid Power Specialist position at UNISIG?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Design Engineer – Fluid Power Specialist will work closely with others in our engineering group as well as machinists, fabricators, assemblers, and programmers to produce world-class manufacturing equipment. This position designs and details complex, precision components and assemblies and prepares bills of material for production utilizing the most up-to-date 2D and 3D software. The working environment is fast paced and professional with advanced technology and challenging design projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•Generate cost effective and simple-to-manufacture concepts to solve identified design issues
•Starting with mechanical assemblies or concepts, create engineered, fully detailed, functioning fluid power and mechanical designs that satisfy all constraints given.
•Gain familiarity with UNISIG product lines, coolant, pneumatic, hydraulic systems, and their integration with machine tools.
•Selection of fluid power components including valves, manifolds, motors, pumps, transducers, filters, hoses, tubing, and fittings.
•Prepare detailed fluid power schematics, mechanical drawings, and bills of material for production.
•Hands-on evaluation of fluid power system operation and diagnostics of system failures.
•All other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
•Bachelor’s degree in mechanical design or other relevant discipline plus 5 years’ experience in design of hydraulic circuits, selection of hydraulic components, and test/evaluation of hydraulic systems, or equivalent combination.
•Excellent work ethic, the ability to work self-directed, and the desire to advance the organization’s product offerings.
•Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and provide direction/mentoring to other staff.
•Highly detail oriented and able to effectively manage their time to complete projects in a timely manner.
