QA Engineer/Software Development Engineer in Test
Unison Systems is looking for a QA Engineer/Software Development Engineer in Test with proficiency in Java and SQL for our client, who is a global data products and technology company. This person will focus on automation from an API and Application perspective. Any Python and Playwright experience is a nice to have! Any experience in Adtech or Marketech would be helpful as well.

The Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) helps deliver the quality and performance of large scale, big data, multi-platform software products that include both web UI and API aspects. This role involves working closely with Software Developers and Product Owners, leveraging shift-left methods to deliver quality products. The SDET focuses on contributing to the development of automated Functional Integration tests and end-to-end tests through open-source test frameworks for overall system testing within an Agile environment. No matter your experience level, there will be many opportunities to learn new technologies and techniques.
This role will be 100% remote-preference is MST. This will be a 12-month contract opportunity.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- We want someone with the right temperament to practice and advocate shift left testing practices in order to support the rollout of innovative software solutions in our global business environment. You will be expected to: Design and develop automated test scripts using tools like Playwright (or other)
- Work closely with the Front-end team to ensure maintainability of automation scripts.
- Work closely with the Product team to understand Business Logic.
- Perform manual tests for anything that can't be automated / is not yet automated, including around Data consistency.
- Work closely with product owners and software developers to refine user stories in BDD format with all the required acceptance criteria.
- Participate and encourage the team to have three amigos’ sessions.
- Test API and web-based applications that reference database back-end systems.
- Create and maintain automated test cases, execute test suites, review and diagnose reported bugs, and ensure overall system quality prior to a release.
- Design, develop, maintain, and troubleshoot automated suites of tests through continuous integration for value added feedback.
- Reproduce, debug, and isolate problems and verify fixes.
- Estimate your own testing tasks and work productively with minimal supervision while showing an excellent team attitude.
- Become an advocate of shift-left testing practices to include testing much earlier in the software development life cycle.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Proven professional Test Automation experience.
- Knowledge of Testing Best Practices.
- Experience with Cucumber, Gherkin, or other BDD testing tools.
- Experience writing automated tests for UI and API testing using Python and Playwright.
- Knowledge of SQL.
- Knowledge of mocking objects for testing.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process.
- Fluent English skills.

- Experience with performance and/or security testing.
- Experience in test data generation for Big Data testing.
- Experience working with Docker.
- Experience working with noSQL and/or columnar data stores (e.g., Couchbase, Vertica, or Snowflake).
- Experience working within a cloud provider such as AWS or GCP.
