We seek a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to assist with pastoral outreach for our congregation. The Caring Visitor will work closely with the lay Pastoral Care Associates, and under the direct supervision of the Senior Minister, to carry out home visits for congregants who cannot get to Sunday morning worship or other congregational events. The Caring Visitor will establish warm, on-going ties with these individuals, keeping them connected with the congregation and congregation staff aware of their needs. Hours will be flexible, depending on need. The Caring Visitor is not expected to handle emergencies or do intensive counseling.

Duties
Home visits with two or three individuals or couples per week in the greater New Haven area
Offer support, compassionate listening, encouragement, and comfort
Work as a team member with the lay Pastoral Care team and the Senior Minister
Be in contact with the minister weekly and the Pastoral Team monthly
Help direct congregants to assistance when needed or requested
Skills
Background in pastoral care, chaplaincy, social work, or related training and/or outreach experience. Experience working with older adults a plus.
Ability to work effectively and comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds.
Display a friendly, direct and conversational style that connects with people of all abilities
Excellent verbal communication skills
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work
Must have reliable vehicle to use for home visits
Familiarity with communication technology - Zoom, email, etc.
Expect to be in the local area for at least two years
Satisfactory background check and references
Need not be a Unitarian Universalist or affiliated with any faith community. Although not required, occasional visits to USNH Sunday worship services would provide greater understanding of the congregation and its needs.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $27.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 4 – 5 per week
