Position Description:
Job Title: Director of Membership and Operations
Status: Part-time salaried, 20 hours/week.
Schedule: Minimum 3 days on-site (including Sundays, excepting one Sunday off per month).
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range $22,000–26,500 at 20 hours/week, in line with UUA compensation guidelines.
- Compensation is commensurate with experience. The position is currently half-time with the opportunity to grow.
- Work hours are flexible. Some weekends and occasional evenings are required.

Job Summary:
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Greensboro is an intergenerational community of many backgrounds and spiritual beliefs, and we work for justice and love in our own lives and in the world. The Director of Membership and Operations oversees the day-to-day operations that provide smooth functioning to support a thriving ministry; coordinates administrative support for the ministry of the congregation; manages communications regarding congregational activities; and welcomes newcomers with genuine care.
This person will play a key role in growing and supporting our faith community, building belonging and connection, and contributing to our work to be a radically welcoming congregation that values diversity and authenticity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operational/Administrative:
- Provide administrative support for the ministry of the congregation.
- Lead project proposal review process, with responsibility for communication and follow-up.
- Engage with the congregation and the larger community as the primary point of contact with the church.
- Recruit congregants into service and leadership through fostering meaningful and positive relationships.
- Keep and direct the church-wide calendar of operations.
- Oversee scheduling and use of the church building, grounds, and materials, including relationships with contractors, tenants, and volunteers.
- Maintain contracts, such as rentals, insurance policies, etc.
- Supervise bookkeeper and technical lead.
Communications:
- Manage email newsletter, social media presence, and website.
- Manage creation and distribution of materials used in church services, classes, etc.
- Recruit congregants into service and leadership through fostering meaningful and positive relationships.
Membership:
- Work in coordination with the Minister, lay leaders, and volunteers to connect, engage, and integrate visitors, members, and friends into the life of the congregation.
- Understand, and promote understanding of, the diverse needs and interests that bring people to our church and help them find what they need.
- Greet and welcome visitors at church services.
- Coordinate and facilitate new member classes.
- Manage membership database.
- Recruit congregants into service and leadership through fostering meaningful and positive relationships.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Record of maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Experience using Google Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.
- Ability to pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, communications, religion/philosophy, human services, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
- Basic general office experience.
- Experience teaching or leading small group discussions.
- Experience using Realm church management software, or similar database-driven applications such as customer relationship management (CRM) software.
- Experience creating email communications and newsletters, such as Constant Contact or similar.
- Experience making minor updates to web pages using Squarespace or similar.
- Experience with social media.
- Experience with graphic design tools, such as Canva or similar.
