Community Outreach Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY: STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Outreach Specialist, within the Train and Earn division, will report directly to the Program Director and Assistant of Workforce Development. The Outreach Specialist will conduct in-person outreach within the community to those participants interested in participating in the Train and Earn Program. The Outreach Specialist will help spread awareness; help determine whether participants are eligible for the program; remind participants about key programmatic events; and guide youth through each respective phase of the program. The Outreach Specialist will exercise best practices associated with trauma informed care, conflict resolution, and the impact of adverse experiences to create successful engagement and lasting rapport.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
- Conduct in-person outreach and recruitment to assist participants with program recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
- Circulate flyers, pamphlets, and other information regarding programming, as directed.
- Utilize communication templates to contact youth through emails, phone calls, and text messages.
- Maintain outreach management tools, including spreadsheets and checklists designed to document communications with participants and record their progress.
- Check-in with participants periodically throughout the course of the program to ensure quality experiences.
- Liaise with participants to resolve program-related issues and foster professional growth.
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings with co-workers, programmatic partners, and other stakeholders.
- Assist with other departmental duties and projects as needed
- Perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred
- Must be 18 years or older at time of hire.
- 2 years of experience in outreach services, preferred.
- Must be willing and able to work both in-person.
- Strong working knowledge using Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint and the GSuite platforms
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thoughtfully and accurately assess and respond to individual needs.
- Excels working in a teamwork-based environment to achieve objectives and outcomes while demonstrating the ability to work independently.
- Demonstrates an understanding of and values individuals’ different capacities, cultures, and abilities.
- Demonstrates ability to conduct and complete work independently, including meeting deadlines, while contributing to a collaborative team effort.

- Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need.

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
