United Construction & Forestry is a John Deere Dealership with multiple locations across Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New York & New Hampshire. Purpose:
Selected participant will get part-time on-the-job experience at one of our locations while attending John Deere technician training at SUNY Cobleskill in New York or a different college for Diesel Technology. This position supports the Service Department to provide extraordinary customer service on new and used John Deere equipment, while also providing exceptional hands-on experience. Additional duties may be assigned and directed by store management.
Responsibilities:
- Assists the Service Manager and technicians in the efficient operation of the department
- Cleans, organizes and maintains the condition of shop, vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment
- Assists service technicians as needed, including delivery of parts
- Assists service technicians with repairing, servicing and moving equipment
- Responsible for complete and thorough documentation of diagnostics and repairs performed on work orders and on time submittal of information.
- May participate in Service EDUCATE Training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge
- Performs basic diagnostics and repairs on equipment
- Maintains current knowledge of John Deere and competitive products
- Operates and maintains tools and equipment required to perform job responsibilities
- Maintains a clean work area and performs work in a neat and orderly fashion
- Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments
Experience, Education, Skills and Knowledge:
- Experience operating tools
- Experience with basic computer functions
- Experience working cooperatively in a team environment
- Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing
- Must have an adequate toolset to perform job responsibilities (may be provided by dealership)
- High School senior who is 18 years of age, or 17 years of age and accepted into a 2 year Diesel Technology program at a college.
- Valid driver’s license required
- Physical Effort: Student Technicians frequently stand for long periods of time, bend, lay, and crawl under to repair and service machines. They frequently lift parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted. They must be able to maneuver on/under heavy equipment and on agricultural/construction sites with irregular terrain. Service technicians must be able to operate a motor vehicle during both day and night as well. Occasionally, they will be required to sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision and color vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, type or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, and walk.
- Working Conditions: Student Technicians work around hazards such as electrical, mechanical, and power equipment. They frequently have risk of exposure to chemicals, used oil, spent antifreeze, parts cleaning solvent, volatile hydrocarbons, battery acid, etc. There is often times adverse weather conditions that they must occasionally work in. There is often mists, fumes, dusts, and non-continuous noises of varying sound levels and intensities that regularly happen in the shop as well.
