POSITION SUMMARY
As a Cashier at United Against Poverty, you are more than just someone who scans and bags items. You play a major role in how our members feel when they shop in our grocery facilities. You are often the first face they interact with and we rely heavily on you to leave a great first impression and quality last impression with all of our members!
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Accurately and efficiently check out members according to UAP policy and procedures.
- Ensuring all items are mark with an appropriately handling fee.
- Providing an amazing member experience by smiling, greeting and thanking members with an upbeat, positive attitude.
- Assisting members with questions, concerns and/or any other issue they may encounter.
- Escalate member needs to a manager when unable to resolve the problem.
- Ensuring your register area maintains a clean and presentable appearance.
- Assist with ensuring merchandise is stocked and ready for our members.
- Engaging in safe workplace practices that protect the safety and security of our employees and our members.
- Assisting with all other MSGP department projects as needed.
ESSENTIALS THAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL
- Previous experience working in a cashier and/or retail position.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Strong math and cash handing skills, ability to count change back accurately, ring transactions using a register and/or other point of sale system.
- Positive attitude, even in the face of adversity.
- Ability to work well and collaborate with others.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- At least one-year experience in a cashier and/or cash handling role is required.
- Must be able to work a flexible shift, including holidays and weekends.
PHYSICAL WORK REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to stand for long periods of time in place and move frequently throughout the day. Must be able to push, pull, bend and lift up to 25lbs without assistance.
