BASIC FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the Curriculum and Instruction Coordinator, the Intervention Specialist provides appropriate learning experiences for students with a range of disabilities (age 3 through 21) in our alternative education program. This program is designed to build academic and functional skills using a personalized approach for each student. Serves as part of a highly skilled team dedicated to providing education through a transdisciplinary approach while upholding the core beliefs of the program. Collaborates with related service providers (speech, occupational, and physical therapists) and contracted service providers (Music Therapists, Teachers of the Visually Impaired, Adapted Physical Education Teachers, etc.) to design customized learning plans to be delivered in small group environment. Ongoing professional development is required for this position. There is an emphasis on continuous learning and sharing skills across disciplines to develop project-based curriculum and personalized learning plans for each student.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Coordinate a highly collaborative IEP/Service Plan process, communicating timelines and expectations with team members to facilitate timely completion.
2.Contribute evaluative data in a timely manner for completion of triennial EvaluationTeam Report.
3.Build meaningful connections and trust with students to cultivate a positive learning environment according to the individual needs of each student.
4.Foster a positive working relationship with teaching assistants, related service providers, intervention specialists, contracted service providers, administration, families, and school district personnel.
5.Collaboratively develop and teach engaging lessons that are grounded in best practice and evidence-based methods.
6.Uphold the Core Beliefs of the program.
7.Use positive behavioral strategies to support a high-quality learning environment.
8.Complete Functional Behavior Assessments and design Behavior Support Plans using a team-based approach.
9.Provide specialized instruction, accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology services for students with disabilities.
10.Coordinate completion of quarterly progress reports in collaboration with related service and outside providers. Provide copies of reports to parents and district representatives.
11.Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings with families, district representatives, and team members.
12.Maintain accurate and complete client/student records.
13.Establish and communicate clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
14.Collect data as evidence of goal progress and attainment.
15.Continuously develop professional skills by participating in staff development activities, curriculum development meetings, and workshops.
16.Coordinate classroom Teaching Assistants for program implementation, in accordance with policies and procedures, to maintain a safe and engaging learning environment.
17.Delegate duties to Teaching Assistants in collaboration with the program manager/director and related service providers.
18.Communicate with program manager or associate director when problems arise with classroom staff or students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education
Current ODE license as a K-12 Intervention Specialist and/or Early Childhood InterventionSpecialist
Exceptional interpersonal skills
