Position: In-Home Respite Caregiver
Work schedule: Part-time, 8-20 HRS/WK
Wage: $16.50 - $18.00 /hr.
Days & hours of work:
M – Sat, Afternoon & Evenings
Various In-home locations in North County, CA
classification: Non-exempt
General Description: Under the direction of the Respite Coordinator, you will provide respite services to families in the consumer’s homes.
SUPERVISOR: Respite Program Coordinator
Supervises: N/A
Essential duties:
· Provide quality care to our consumers in their homes.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the overall care and supervision of the Consumers:
· Provide responsible respite care so that family stability may be restored or maintained.
· Follow instructions for care of consumer as outlined by the parents/guardians.
· Assist consumer in areas of feeding, dressing, toileting, bathing, grooming, etc. as needed.
· Distribute medications if necessary.
· Use safety precautions at all times.
· Never leave consumers unattended.
· Report suspected incidents of abuse to Respite Coordinator and complete required documentation.
· Report any changes in personal information to Respite Coordinator immediately.
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
· High School Diploma/GED preferred.
· Must be eighteen (18) years of age.
· At least six (6) months experience in the area of developmental disabilities or be a family member or close friend to the consumers being served..
· FA/CPR certified or the ability to be FA/CPR certified.
Communication Skills:
· Ability to write legibly.
· Ability to follow instructions.
· Ability to compile information to assist with development of Individual Service Plans.
· Ability to complete a checklist of duties performed.
· Ability to use software to track attendance and hours.
Reasoning & Mental Ability:
· Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
· Ability to resolve problems, recall details and be able to concentrate.
· Must be able to think clearly and respond appropriately to emergencies, complete work within deadlines, and work with frequent interruptions.
· Ability to prioritize and organize work effectively.
· Ability to work independently.
Physical Ability & Stress Level:
· Ability to tolerate a moderate to high stress level.
· Ability to lift and transfer from 50-100 lbs., push and/or pull up to 200 lbs. (Wheelchairs.)
Work Environment:
· Noise level of environment is moderate to high.
· Must have access to reliable transportation and the ability to meet with families and consumers in their homes.
· Exposure to blood borne pathogens could occur during restrooming, feeding, or when administering first aid to consumers. Hepatitis B vaccine is offered to all employees at no cost to employee.
**TB Test, health screening and a LiveScan background clearance are required for employment with United Cerebral Palsy Association of SD County.**
