Job Specifications:
This position works in a low ratio/self-contained K-5th grade classroom supporting classes of approximately 9 students with more intense needs (including behavior needs) with a 1:3 ratio of staff/student. The Paraprofessional Low Ratio assists the Teacher in ensuring all students are achieving at high levels academically, socially, and emotionally.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform teacher duties in absence of the teacher, including, but not limited to developing lesson plans and leading other staff in the classroom.
- Implement lesson plans as directed by teacher
- Implement individual education plan (IEP) goals as directed by teacher including providing small group instruction.
- Utilize and ensure consistent implementation of behavior techniques and classroom management techniques and collect required data.
- Assist in implementing individual behavior plan.
- Assist in planning and developing instructional materials and equipment, including enrichment materials for each unit, so that maximum use may be made of resources.
- Ensure and provide basic care giving duties (utilizing universal health and safety precautions) for children, including, but not limited to changing diapers, feeding children, and cleaning childrens hands, faces, etc.
- Assist in the communication with therapists and other special service agencies and incorporate therapy and other special requirements into class activities.
- Maintain positive staff and parent interactions.
- Ensure Teacher are informed of all parent and staff concerns and complaints.
- Ensure concerns with individual students are brought to the attention of the Teacher.
- Participate in required meetings with classroom team, including therapists, lead teacher assistants and teacher and campus (i.e. All staff meetings)
- Assist in ensuring that parents sign in and out each day.
- Ensure compliance with requirements and guidelines set forth by UCP, HIPPA, FERPA, NAEYC, Department of Education, 4C, Department of Children and Families, and other State and Federal agencies.
- Assist with the implementation and compliance with the MTSS process and support social skills implementation and documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience:
- 1 year or more classroom experience working with classroom grade population
- Prefer experience working with students with disabilities.
- Strong behavior skills
- Experience tracking data
Education and Training:
- Associate Degree (or 60 college credits) or ParaPro (464 score or above)
- CPI Trained
- Behavior coursework.
