Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Specialist to join our team. This role is essential in providing skilled respite care to families throughout Dane County. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to inclusion and client centered care, ensuring a respectful, safe, and caring environment.
Duties:
- Provide emotional, physical and personal care assistance as indicated through training or supports identified in the person's Respite Care Plan.
- Balance “negative” feedback or information that you are sharing with the family with information on what is going well, or with a fun story from your time with the person
- Maintain commitments made to families ensuring that service delivery is not adversely affected.
- Act as a guest in the families’ home. Support Specialists are required to be professional at all times!
- Model understanding of the benefits of inclusion and work on a consistent basis to maintain or improve the current level of inclusion without inhibiting it.
- Directly involve community members (when appropriate) responsible for meeting the needs of the person with a disability. (For example, activity instructors, coaches, etc.
- Help problem-solve through potential problems or challenges to find creative solutions. Be sure to communicate with the family and with the CARE Coordinator to ensure consistency between staff.
- Target activities related to specific goals within the child’s Positive Behavior Support Plan
- Model and/or apply new strategies related to specific skills or behaviors
- Provide opportunities and guidance for the child to learn and practice daily living skills (such as making a simple meal, tidying their bedroom, riding the bus, etc.)
Requirements

- Basic understanding of people both with and without disabilities.
- Competency in providing care for others and sound decision making.
- Respect for differences.
- Understanding of providing care and supervising others and how it relates to people with disabilities.
- A valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, liability coverage and a vehicle are required for most positions. (This position may provide transportation for others. Responsible driving is a must.)

Hours: 6-8am and 2-7pm Mon-Fri
Pay: $20 per hour
Est 20 hours per week, can be flexible
Job Types: Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 2 – 20 per week
