General Description

The Assistant Principal serves as part of the Administrative and Instructional Teams. The AP is responsible for supporting the department’s administration as necessary by bringing evidence-based practices on campus with the goal of increasing student engagement, improving student achievement, and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. 

 

The Assistant Principal promotes academic excellence through high-quality educational standards, consistent student discipline, collecting and tracking data, monitoring student growth, recommending curricular and intervention responses, and effectively implementing behavior incentive programs. The AP oversees student support services and partnerships including classroom instructional aides, ASP to support students with IEPs and 504s, and collaborations with student care and campus safety. This person actively oversees student events, promoting a culture of excellence and achievement. 

 

UCA recognizes administration as integral part of the 5-fold ministry given to the church in Ephesians 4:11-13. As such, UCA teachers serve as ministers to help advance the mission and vision of United Christian Academy.

 

Reports To:  School level Principal

Qualifications


Qualifications & Responsibilities:

  • Must be a born-again Christian.
  • Must be a credible Christian role model whose godly lifestyle and character demonstrate obedience to God and the Holy Bible.
  • Must be a Bible scholar who has demonstrated the ability to apply biblical principles to school instruction and administration.
  • Must be able to support and comply with the school’s Statement of Faith and Christian Conduct.
  • Must have an understanding of and commitment to UC Academy’s educational objectives and philosophy of education.
  • Must be a member of an evangelical, Bible-believing church.
  • Must hold a Master’s degree in education.  A concentration in school administration is preferred.
  • Must have at least five years of classroom teaching experience.
  • Two or more years of administrative experience in a Christian school is preferred.
  • Must hold an ACSI or State certification in school administration.
  • Sufficient health and physical ability to be able to complete assigned duties.
  • Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication.
  • Skills in teacher leadership (mentor, instructional coach, professional learning facilitator).
  • Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise.
  • Strong stance of empathy, acceptance, and growth mindset.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organization and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and engage respectfully with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to employ technology and digital learning tools.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and disaggregate data to serve as the basis for appropriate strategies.
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • TB clearance with the last four years.
  • Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance.
  • Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986: An Eligibility Verification Form (I-9) will be required along with the supporting documents listed on the I-9 form

Responsibilities:

A.  Personal/Spiritual Leadership

  1. Maintains a lifestyle that promotes health and endurance necessary for the position.
  2. Maintains a personal decorum that models professionalism, modesty, and good taste.
  3. Develops and maintains rapport with students, parents, and colleagues to promote a positive school atmosphere.
  4. Seeks to model Christ in attitude, speech, and action.
  5. Demonstrates continual growth in biblical knowledge and in spiritual maturity.

B. Guidance and Educational Leadership

  1. Assists the Principal to provide instructional leadership  and professional development to faculty and staff.
  2. Assist the principal in the development and leading of in-service/PD training for the faculty and staff.
  3. Gains meaningful parental participation and partnership in the education of their children.
  4. Assists in maintaining high moral and behavioral standards for faculty while garnering joyful participation and support from students.
  5. Provides wise, godly counsel with students and parents over discipline matters, with the ultimate goal of cultivating spiritual growth for all involved.
  6. Ensures that policies and procedures are followed in administering discipline, keeping proper documentations and involving higher authorities when appropriate.
  7. Administer disciplinary procedures involving violations of code of unacceptable behavior.
  8. Suspend for violation of school regulations.
  9. Works with colleagues to help build the arts, athletics, and enrichment programs to complement the classroom in developing the whole child: physical, mental, social, and spiritual.
  10. Ensures that the school’s educational programs meet all requirements of the State of California and other governing agencies that UC Academy reports to.

C. Curriculum Planning & Development

  1. Assists faculty in continual evaluation and improvement of school’s instructional program, pursuing academic excellence.
  2. Guide and direct curriculum steering committes.
  3. Assists faculty in integration of a Christian worldview within subject matters.
  4.   Direct the staff in addressing the needs of all students through differentiated instruction.
  5. Ensures that instructional program adequately prepares each student for the next level in their educational pursuit.
  6. Ensures that the school program is producing Christian virtues and leadership skills in students.
  7. Collaborate to build department master and daily schedules.
  8. Plan and coordinate testing for all department grade levels.
  9. Support and direct accreditation committees.
  10. Implement and manage academic contests and awards.

D.  Administrative Leadership

  1. Acts as a liaison between the Principal and the faculty/staff, keeping both parties apprised of significant issues.
  2. Assists the Principal to the overall management of employees.
  3. Assists in making sure the daily operation of the school is smooth and orderly, operating by biblical standards and school policies.
  4. Resolves conflicts and grievances in accordance with Matthew 18 and other school policies.
  5. Assists in the day to day building administration and the safety and welfare of students, staff, volunteers, and activities.
  6. Identifies problems within the school and implements appropriate, effective solutions to them.
  7. Assists the Principal in the recruitment and selection of faculty and staff.
  8. Follows procedures for admitting only qualified students into the school program.
  9. Supports and assists the principal in the forming, controlling, and balancing the school budget.
  10. Serve as liason with the Campus Care team.

E.  Public Relations Responsibilities

  1. Frequently and enthusiastically presents the school to current and prospective families.
  2. Support faculty and staff in student recruitment efforts.
  3. Fosters and maintains good relationships with the home, church, school, and community.
  4. Assists school personnel in developing quality literature to promote the school.

F.  Other Responsibilities

  1. Provides general oversight in the use and care of church/school properties.
  2.    Assist in assigning teachers to classrooms and students to classes.
  3.    Supervise extra-curricular activities
  4.    Determines staffing needs and submits recommendations to the principal.
  5.    Utilizes the parameters of all negotiated contracts
  6.    Assists in evaluating performance and effectiveness of programs and staff
  7.    Possesses strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks.
  8. Participates in district-wide activities, in-services and committees, as appropriate.
  9.    Continual monitoring of student achievement

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Standing/walking (60%), sitting (20%), lifting (5%), climbing (5%), bending (4%), squatting (6%). Must be able to lift 10-25 pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work environment includes indoor and outdoor environments and office and classroom settings. Floating desk assignment and/or shared office space may be required; moderate noise levels commensurate to a classroom environment.
