As a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) at Columbus Colony for Elderly Care, you will play a vital role in providing compassionate and personalized care to our residents. Under the supervision of licensed nursing staff, you will assist with activities of daily living, monitor resident health and well-being, and provide essential support to ensure the comfort and safety of our residents.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding, while promoting independence and dignity.
  • Provide mobility assistance, transfers, and positioning to residents as needed, using proper lifting and transfer techniques to prevent injury.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, intake and output, and other relevant health information, reporting any changes or concerns to licensed nursing staff.
  • Assist with the implementation of resident care plans, including medication reminders, therapeutic exercises, and other treatments under the direction of licensed nursing staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of resident rooms and common areas, including making beds, tidying personal belongings, and ensuring a safe environment.
  • Respond promptly to resident calls and requests for assistance, providing attentive and compassionate care at all times.
  • Foster positive relationships with residents and families, providing emotional support and companionship as needed.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and communicate effectively with other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care for residents.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols, safety guidelines, and facility policies and procedures at all times.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner, including incident reports, care logs, and other records.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic nursing principles and practices, including ADL assistance and vital sign measurement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities and resident needs.
  • Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring lifting, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
  • Empathy, integrity, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of resident care.

Education and Experience:

  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) certification required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move residents, including pushing wheelchairs and assisting with transfers, with or without mechanical assistance.
  • Physical stamina to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, reaching, and standing for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as feeding, grooming, and assisting with personal care.
  • Visual acuity and auditory ability to monitor resident health and respond to calls for assistance.
  • Ability to work in environments with varying temperatures and noise levels.
