WHAT WE’RE OFFERING
The Business Development Manager will identify and cultivate strategic opportunities to drive top-of-funnel growth for enterprise, government, and large corporate accounts. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), this role focuses heavily on relationship-building, market expansion, and maintaining a steady pipeline of high-value business opportunities. The Business Development Manager will collaborate cross-functionally, working closely with sales, marketing, and operations to ensure seamless transitions of qualified leads and strategic initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include the following, but other duties may be assigned as required.
- Develop and implement a strategic business development plan targeting enterprise, government, and large corporate sectors.
- Identify, pursue, and qualify high-value opportunities aligned with company growth objectives.
- Build and nurture strategic relationships with senior decision-makers in enterprise organizations and government agencies.
- Collaborate with economic development groups and industry stakeholders to explore partnerships, funding opportunities, and grants.
- Facilitate high-impact meetings with potential enterprise and government customers, driving key strategic discussions forward.
- Ensure the effective handoff of qualified opportunities to the enterprise sales team, maintaining clear and timely communication.
- Provide ongoing market intelligence, competitive analysis, and trend insights to leadership.
- Represent United Communications at industry events, conferences, and networking functions, regularly attending chamber events across our footprint and building strong relationships with chamber and economic development leadership to elevate brand visibility.
- Collaborate with key account representatives at Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE), leveraging their existing relationships, data, and insights to enhance business development initiatives.
- Work closely with marketing and sales teams to refine messaging and outreach strategies and strengthen United’s positioning in target markets.
WHAT YOU BRING:
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field preferred, however, in lieu of a degree, years of relevant experience may suffice.
- 5 years of experience in business development, sales, or strategic partnerships, preferably in the telecommunications, technology, or utility sectors.
- Proven track record of identifying, pursuing, and closing high-value business opportunities in enterprise, government, or large corporate markets.
- Experience working with economic development groups, industry stakeholders, or chamber organizations to drive partnerships and business growth.
- Strong background in market research, competitive analysis, and strategic planning to inform business decisions.
- Exceptional relationship-building and networking skills, with the ability to engage senior decision-makers in enterprise and government sectors.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities to identify new market opportunities and develop actionable plans.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills for high-impact meetings and stakeholder engagement.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with sales, marketing, and operations to align business development efforts with company objectives.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and CRM tools for tracking pipeline and opportunity management.
- Knowledge of government procurement processes, grants, and funding opportunities is a plus.
Success Metrics (First 6-12 Months)
- Identify and qualify 25-30 significant enterprise, government, or large corporate opportunities, while maintaining a list of the top 25 overall opportunities within Middle TN
- Develop strategic engagement plans for 3 priority market segments (e.g., healthcare, manufacturing, municipalities).
- Establish and manage a rolling pipeline valued at $100,000 in potential monthly revenue.
- Secure and conduct meetings with at least 20 senior decision-makers from targeted organizations.
- Develop a clear, repeatable approach for engaging government and enterprise stakeholders.
- Provide quarterly market intelligence reports detailing industry trends and competitive insights.
- Successfully hand off at least 8 opportunities to the enterprise sales team, with at least 3 advancing to negotiation or execution stages.
- Collaborate with marketing to publish at least 2 pieces of thought leadership content to position United as a leading broadband expert in enterprise and government sectors.
