WHAT WE’RE OFFERING
The GIS Data Technician is responsible for preparing, updating, and maintaining GIS data to support United’s mapping and project implementations. This position works closely with engineering, construction teams, and management to ensure accurate data entry and mapping. The role involves interpreting as-built documentation, producing various map products, and performing quality control to maintain data integrity. Additionally, the GIS Data Technician may assist with internal training and process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include the following, but other duties may be assigned as required.
- Prepare and organize mapping data for United project implementations.
- Perform detailed and precise GIS data entry, analysis, and editing.
- Interpret as-built project documentation to update and maintain GIS records.
- Collaborate with engineering and construction teams as needed to ensure data accuracy.
- Produce a variety of map products daily to support internal and external needs.
- Create, edit, and integrate data from multiple sources, including geodatabases and web services.
- Assist in coordinating and conducting internal GIS training sessions when necessary.
- Maintain project quality control standards and ensure alignment with team goals.
- Identify and recommend improvements to GIS processes and workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Perform QA/QC on all GIS work products to ensure data integrity.
- Evaluate internal requests related to GIS and training, ensuring deliverables meet expectations.
- Report to the GIS Manager and perform additional duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor of Science in GIS or other technically related field required.
- 1-2 years related professional experience preferred.
- Intermediate knowledge and capability to work with Microsoft Office applications required.
- Basic knowledge or experience with AutoCAD, SQL Server, ESRI ArcGIS Software Suite (Pro, Online, Enterprise, Apps).
- Experience and familiarity with field data collection methods. Trimble GPS preferred.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to defuse tension within project team or between teams, should it arise.
- Ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
- Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Industry specific knowledge in disaster or emergency response a plus.
